The Entrance is the ideal place for a family holiday if you don’t want to travel far from Sydney. It is located on the Central Coast about one hours drive north from Sydney along a fantastic motorway. The Entrance gets its name from its location as the entrance to the Tuggerah lakes system from the Pacific Ocean. The town is built on an isthmus of land, sandwiched between the beach on the eastern side and the Tuggerah lakes on the inland side. Everything is practically surrounded by water and consequently this is a very popular destination for boaties, fishermen and beach lovers.
The channel area where the lakes flow into the sea is extremely popular. Cafes, fish and chips shops and restaurants line the waterfront and fishermen clean their catch here and then feed the flocks of pelicans. This is also a popular prawning area and at night on a run out tide, dozens of people can be seen with lights and dipping nets wading through the shallow channels dipping up these succulent delicacies. Keen fishermen also line the channel banks fishing for the elusive but tasty Mulloway or Jewfish. The Entrance has a great shopping area as well as several malls. There is no shortage of things to do. The ocean beaches are sensational and this is a very popular surfing destination. There is a great surf club and the beaches are all patrolled by qualified lifeguards.
The region also has plenty of great holiday and beachfront accommodation. There is a wide range to choose from with self contained holiday apartments being popular and there is also hotel and motel style accommodation available. The Entrance lies just north of Terrigal, which is another popular beachfront holiday destination and a great place to visit for a day away. The Central Coast has several great golf courses and this is a popular pastime for local holiday makers. Resort style courses are available at Wyong and both The Entrance and Gosford have excellent courses. If you are planning your next family holiday or just a short break away, then come to The Entrance for a holiday to remember.
